Dave Everett
I started my career 20 years ago on a software help desk and developed my skills through experience to grow into positions including IT Manager and System Administrator level III.
Through hands-on experience I’ve developed a broad foundation and a deeper appreciation for how systems and processes work together.
Please feel welcome to learn more about me here on my website, review my recent work history on LinkedIn, and contact me if you'd like to consider adding me to your team.
IT Manager
While System Administrator and IT Manager are fitting professional titles, I like to think that Problem Solver best describes what I do. Whether I'm working on a specific issue in a break-fix mindset, planning a project, or maintaining systems - my goal is to find a solution.
With my rich background and experience in real-world situations I'm pretty quick at connecting the dots to not only solve existing problems, but proactively plan for and avoid them in the projects I take on.
Customer Service, and Part of the Team
I do what I do because I enjoy it and I'm good at it - I truly turned my hobby and passion into my career. I recognize myself as a part of the bigger whole - I wouldn't know the first thing about selling a couch, building a refrigerator, or backing up a semi truck - but as a team, everyone makes it all come together. I consider it my primary responsibility to make sure others can reliably and efficiently meet their responsibilities.
What I'm Seeking, and My Availability
I am a US citizen eligible to work for any employer without sponsorship.
I am seeking first-shift, full-time employment. Given the nature of IT I fully understand there will be after hours work, on-call needs, emergencies, and things of that nature - it's part of the job and totally acceptable.
Working on-site is my preference, but I do appreciate the flexibility for remote work when appropriate.
I am open to traveling for work, and potentially relocation needed or desired.
I am generally available for interviews with a 24-hour notice, and likely available to begin working within a week.
About My Online Presence (rather, the lack thereof)
You may have noticed that I don't have much online presence. I understand this may be negatively affecting my job search, and I appreciate any concern you may have because of this. To put it plainly, I tend to be a private person, and I don't feel comfortable sharing personal details with the billions of strangers on the Internet.
My hope is that with this website I can add some credibility to my name and presence. Please also notice that I have verified my identity on LinkedIn with my ID and video verification (as indicated by the shield and check mark next to my name on my profile).
My complete resume, along with personal and professional references, are available - and I'm willing to submit to the required background checks as needed for employment. I am a US citizen eligible to work for any employer without sponsorship.
My Hobbies
Outdoors
I love getting outside when I can - just being outside. I enjoy walking and hiking to appreciate the natural world around me. There's a number of trails around my home that I enjoy, and I also enjoy getting out to places like Stillwater, Hudson, and St. Croix Falls.
Driving
I wouldn't call myself a car guy, but I enjoy scenic drives and cruises with small groups. I keep a camping chair in my trunk so I can sit and enjoy the nice spots I find along the way. One of my favorite routes is highway 35 in Wisconsin along the Mississippi River between Prescott and Wabasha.
Gaming
I enjoy playing video games and find myself mostly drawn to survival and exploration genres, games that involve planning and resource management. Yeah, I guess what I like to play sounds like work in a way, but it fits my personality. My current favorites include Satisfactory, RimWorld, and 7 Days to Die.
My Opinions on AI
I think AI is a great tool - but it's just that, a tool. I've used AI to help with scripting, troubleshooting, and even building this website. As with any tool, it doesn't replace human understanding or troubleshooting, and it certainly isn't right about everything.
It's also not a solution on its own. Whenever I use AI, especially for coding, I read over everything it provides - to verify what it's doing and correct the finer details it inevitably gets wrong. AI is still far from "trust but verify", in my opinion.
As I've built my career on curiosity and experience, I'd only be cheating myself to heavily rely on it. I use it to learn, and to understand - if I use AI to do something I take the time to follow along and use it as a learning opportunity, often manually re-typing everything rather than simply copying and pasting.
